LOVE equals CONFUSION

So all day ive been thinking of the wrongs and rights of love. How you know that the decision that your making with your significant other or soon to be significant other is right. People always say go with your gut feeling but how do you know when your gut feeling is right. Like i never believe in taking steps backward because i feel like if someone is in your past theres a reason. They were meant to be there. But if the person comes back into your prsent does that mean that they belong in your present?. Its hard for me to understand the ways of love bcecause its like it feels so good to be in love with someone but then again you can love someone so much that it hurts you. because you have to let them go. What do you guys think?
